NAGW response to Federal Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding accessibility
The National Association of Government Webmasters (NAGW.org) submitted a response to the USDOJ Advanced Notice of Proposed Rule Making, CRT Docket No. 110, (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities and Public Accommodations) on January 24, 2011.
NAGW has always encouraged implementation of accessibility standards on all sites so information is available to the broadest online constituency, but is concerned about the many jurisdictions that will be unable to comply with regulatory requirements because of technical, staffing and budgetary shortages. It supports continuing education about web accessibility along with Federal leadership in creating resource libraries and certifying web products.
The response document was adopted at a meeting of the Board of Directors on January 24, 2011.
