Who Qualifies for Membership in NAGW?
To be eligible for full, voting membership in the Association, an applicant must be considered a full- or part-time employee of a qualifying local government entity as defined in Article IX, Section 6 and receive an annual W2 statement from that agency. Unpaid volunteers who manage or regularly update the web site for a qualifying local government entity will be considered by the Board for full, voting membership on a case-by-case basis.
For these purposes, a local government entity is either a political subdivision of a state within the United States or one of its possessions, authorized under state statute to deliver governmental services to citizens, and whose governing council or board is elected by the registered voters within that political subdivision’s jurisdiction; or a regional council of local governments holding membership in the National Association of Regional Councils, an affiliate of the National League of Cities, the National Association of Counties, or the US Conference of Mayors. Also eligible as full voting members are full- or part-time employees of a U.S. state government (SGE), the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands, who receive an annual W2 statement from that agency. SGE's may vote and serve on the Board of Directors but are limited to the two (2) At-Large positions.
To be eligible for associate, non-voting membership in the Association, an applicant must be considered a full- or part-time employee of the U.S. Federal government (FGE) and receive an annual W2 statement from that agency. Associate members shall not be eligible to vote or serve on the Board of Directors.
