OPENING KEYNOTE: Creating Emotionally Engaging Places
Peter is the author of For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places and the follow-up, Love Where You Live: Creating Emotionally Engaging Places. Planetizen recognized For the Love of Cities as a Top 10 Book in 2012 in urban planning, design and development. He is the former President of Creative Tampa Bay, a grassroots community change organization and the co-founder of the Creative Cities Summit, an interdisciplinary conference that brings citizens and practitioners together around the big idea of ‘the city.’ Peter is a Senior Fellow with the Alliance for Innovation, a national network of city leaders that is dedicated to improving the practice of local government. He is also a special advisor to America In Bloom.

Keynote: The Journey of 500 Journeys
Dana Chisnell brings deep experience in civic design, starting with research at NIST into the use of language in instructions on ballots (with Ginny Redish), and work on standards and testing for poll worker documentation for the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG). She is also an expert in plain language and usability for older adults, including ground-breaking work at AARP that was the basis for several requirements in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). As the editor of the Field Guides, she has taught thousands of election officials how to improve ballots, websites and other election materials to ensure voter intent

Keynote: What Hath Digital Technology Wrought? A Look at Government in 2025
Marc H. Pfeiffer retired in 2012 from a 37-year career in New Jersey local government administration, having served as a municipal administrator in several municipalities, and 26 years of service in the State’s local government oversight agency, the Division of Local Government Services. Marc has broad experience in many areas of local government policy and administration: finance and property taxation, public procurement, shared services and consolidation, technology, energy, labor relations, and general government administration. He also has deep experience in the legislative process and as a regulatory officer. He is currently engaged in research concerning the use of technology in local government. In addition to participating in Bloustein Local, he assists the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration with the State’s Certified Public Manager Program in curriculum development and instruction.
